Laretta Steel, 69, of Burton, passed away April 3, 2010, in Boise, surrounded by family.

She was born Feb. 8, 1941, in Rexburg to Wayne William Hansen and Nola Dean Haws of Newdale. She was the fourth of six children. She attended schools in Sugar-Salem School District and Ricks College.

She married Coleman M. Steel in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 25, 1958.

They lived in Plano and Malta, Idaho; Warden, Wash.; and Burton, Idaho. She retired from Brigham Young University-Idaho as supervisor of the telephone office. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many callings. She particularly loved Relief Society.

Laretta is survived by her husband of 52 years, Coleman M. Steel of Burton; children, Todd Steel (Carolyn) of Florida, Waynette Steel (Jim Brown) of Utah, Randall Steel (Noelle) of Oregon, Terri Weaver (Randall) of Sugar City, Blake Steel (Beth) of Washington, Brenda Reeser (David) of Rexburg, Alison Shuldberg (Brian) of Texas, Richard Steel (Tanya) of Boise, Jeannette Cooley (Trevor) of Idaho Falls and Aarin Smith (Wesley) of Rigby; 40 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Que Hansen, Brenda Hockersmith, Brett Hansen and Chris Peterson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, granddaughter, and older brother, Vanoy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, at the Burton LDS church, with Bishop Tim McGarry officiating The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
