She has been in failing health several months from heart trouble and other disabilities of old age and had been confined to her bed since Christmas. Mrs. Nichols, whose maiden name was Elizabeth M. At the age of 5 she came with her parents to north Tama; the family settling on a farm east of Traer. On Christmas eve of 1870, she was united in marriage to Marcus G. Nichols. The first year of their marriage the couple, farmed in Grant township. Then for a few years they, left Tama county, engaging in business at Maxburg, Iowa later at Liscomb. They first operated a meat market, later a drugstore. Coming back to Traer again, they operated a grocery store a short time, then moved on to their farm, the Nichols eighty just south of Traer, which was their home twenty-five years. In 1905 they retired and moved to Traer a several years later located, in Waterloo. Most of the winter months for several years, were spent in California.
