Pioneer North Tama Resident, Is Claimed - CAME HERE 12 YEARS BEFORE TOWN WAS BORN
Mrs. Eb Green, one of the best-known and most beloved pioneer women of the Traer community, died Wednesday morning at her home here following an illness of several months. Mrs. Green became bedfast January 27 of this year, suffering from the infirmities of age rather than any specific disease, and failed gradually until her death although in times she seemed to show gains for short periods. She was unable to take nourishment of any kind during the last two weeks of her life and the end was momentarily expected. A private funeral service will be held at the home at 2 o'clock this afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. H. W. Singer, local Methodist pastor. Burial will be in Buckingham cemetery.
Mrs. Green, whose maiden name was Cynthia Green, was born January 21, 1842, at Adams Center, New York. Her early life was spent in that community and she was married there June 3, 1859, to Ebenezer Green. The couple came to Iowa in the spring of 1861, locating on a farm near the present site of Traer, which was not founded until twelve years later. In 1902 they retired from the farm and moved to Traer, where Mr. Green died August 31, 1926. The couple passed sixty-seven wedding anniversaries with their family circle still unbroken, the first child to be taken— Mrs. Ira Perry—succeeding her father in death. In the entire family of four generations there has been but one other death besides those of the parents and the one child. Seven children survive—Mrs. A. H. Gates Sr. and Harry Green, of Traer; Mrs. John Axon and Omer Green, of Hudson; Ora. E., of San Jose, California; and Ralph and. Willis Green, both of Sioux Rapids, Iowa.
