Caroline Hoffman was born on April 25, 1847 in Haddenhausen, Germany. Haddenhausen is listed in North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany. She came to America between 1847 & 1858. She married Henry H. Ahrens on March 14, 1858 in St. Louis, MO. They were believed to have raised fourteen children.

Grandson, George Edward Ahrens, believed that Caroline gave birth to eight chlldren; he said the other children were possibly from another marriage, and they raised one or two grandchildren also. He stated they raised possibly fourteen children, and two grandchildren. A second marriage has not been proved at this time.

In 1880, the census reports that Caroline was living with her husband Henry Ahrens and several children in St. Louis, MO; she was 34 years old. Joseph Hofman lived with them; he is a probable relative to Caroline.
