The son of John and Ann Carmichael, Hugh came to the United States with his parents in 1869. On June 29, 1886 he was married to Elizabeth M. Dunn at Clifton, KS. To this union were born five children.
Sometime after 1888 the family removed to what is now the State of Oklahoma, settling near the present town of Arapaho. At the time of his passing, they were living at Butler, Custer County, OK.
Survivors in addition to his wife were his children; Artie L., Earl D., Stella A. Barrick and Hugh. One daughter, Velma Ann, preceded him in 1923. Burial was at the Butler Cemetery.
