Eunice Mae Troyer was born May 5, 1926 near Crystal Springs KS to Fred A. and Bertha Shindler Troyer. She passed away on Friday October 22, 2010 at the Harper Hospital, Harper, KS.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ted and a sister Evelyn. She is survived by her sister-in-law Violet Troyer, of Harper; nephew, Rod Troyer and wife Lin of Leonardville, KS; niece Rita and husband Russell Smoker of Harper; great-nephew, Shaun Troyer of Leonardville, KS; two great nieces, Reannon and husband David Everhart of Nashville, TN and Reyna Smoker of Overland Park, KS.

As a young girl she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized, becoming a member of the Crystal Springs Mennonite Church, of which she remained a lifetime member. She attended the Crystal Springs Grade School and Harper High School for 3 years graduating from Hesston College Academy in 1944.

In 1950, she became employed by Dr. Flowers and Dr. Hulett in Anthony, KS as a receptionist. She worked as a Medical Assistant to Dr. Hulett for 10 years. In 1964, she graduated from the LaJunta Mennonite School of Practical Nursing. She worked as an LPN in the Medicine Lodge and Attica Hospitals. In 1967 she became employed by Dr. Bellar at the Harper Medical Clinic until her full retirement in 2001.

Eunice's work was very important to her. She always had a smile on her face and she knew how to cheer up a patient, even when she had to give a shot. She cared deeply for the many people she met through work and the community and she held those relationships dear.

Aside from her work as a nurse, Eunice's life revolved around church and her family. She was involved in many church activities, including quilt making, which she continued for most of her life. She loved her family greatly and brought much laughter whenever she was around. She cared for her family in many ways, from cooking for them, to being willing to enter into a water fight (which she sometimes started). Her humor was one of the most wonderful and unique things about Eunice.

Eunice and her sister Evelyn lived on their family farm until 1997 when they moved to a home in Harper. The plants which she cared for so lovingly bloom in front of that home where she lived until her hospital stay. Eunice with her energetic spirit, easy smile and faithful witness will be greatly missed.
