Evelyn Marciel Troyer was born March 27, 1923 near Crystal Springs, Kansas to Fred A. Troyer and Bertha (Schindler) Troyer. She passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Harper Hospital, Harper, KS.
evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ted Troyer. She is survived by her sister, Eunice Troyer; her sister-in-law, Violet Troyer both of Harper; nephew, Rod Troyer and wife Lin of Leonardville, KS; niece Rita and husband Russell Smoker of Harper; great nephew, Shaun Troyer of Leonardville, Ks; two great nieces, Reannon and husband David Everhart of Nashville, TV and Reyna Smoker of Overland Park, Ks.
At the age of twelve, Evelyn accepted christ as her Saior and ws baptized, becoming a member of the Crystal Springs Mennonite Church, of which she remained a lifetime member. She attended the Crystal Springs Grade School and graduated from Harper High School in 1941.
Evelyn's life revolved around her family, church and work. She loved the outdoors, and was often finding something to fix or make do around the farm. She was also very adept at cooking and sewing. Cooking for 2 or 20 was no problem for her. She loved to sew and made many articles of clothing for infants to grandmothers. In her retirement she enjoyed making comforters to keep the needy warm.
In 1947, she started working at the Joslin Hospital, cooking for the patients and staff, later working as a nurse's aide. In 1958, she graduated from the LaJunta Colorado Mennonite School of Practical Nursing. She worked as a LPN in area hospitals. She took early reitrement in 1983 due to rheumatoid arthritis, after working sixteen years at the Anthony Hospital, Anthony, Ks.
In 1997 Evelyn moved from the farm on which she was born to Harper, KS. Due to failing heath she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit in the Harper Hospital in January of 2007. She remained thee until her death.
