Owner of Gingery's Dept. Store Dies

Vernoica C. Gingery, 80, 300 South Hamsher street, died Monday of complications at 9:55 p.m. at the Fort Wayne Healthcare Center where she had been a patient since Nov. 3.

She was the owner of Gingery's Department Store. Mrs. Gingery, known by many as Fronie, and her husband, Laird, purchased the clothing store in 1931 from J. A. Meyers. I They carried a complete line of men, women and children's clothing. After the death of Mr. Gingery, she continued the business until her recent illness. The business was first opened in 1911 as a dry goods store.

Services were held at 10 a.m. today in St. Joseph Catholic Church and burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Father Adam Schmitt officiated. Rosary and D of I services were held Wednesday evening at the McKee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gingery was born May 15, 1898, in Garrett, to Michael and Mary (Byanski) Krus. She was married to Laird M. Gingery. He died in 1946.

Survivors are one brother, Frank Krus, 300 South Hamsher street; two sisters, Mrs. B. A. Johnson, 504 South Johnson street; and Mrs. Helen Rothwell, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Gingery was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella.
