Vesta Amelia Sutton was born July 11, 1877 on a farm near Cook, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Lucy Hall.
She grew to womanhood on the farm and became a member of the Mount Hope Church which was situated a short distance from her home. She took an active part in church as well as neighborhood affairs whenever possible to do so.
On February 23, 1896 she was united in marriage to Tol C. Sutton and they began housekeeping on a farm only a few miles distant.
To this union were born three children: Vera, Ralph and Lee.
In the spring of 1905 the family moved to a farm north of Wolbach where they resided until the spring of 1931.
While at Wolbach she became a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in church affairs. She also became a member of the Wolbach Rebeccah Lodge.
In the spring of 1931 Mr. and Mrs. Sutton moved on to a smaller farm northwest of Clarks and resided there until 1933 when they retired onto a small acreage at Monroe.
In February of 1953 Mr. and Mrs. Sutton moved to York and became members of the I.O.O.F. home there. Mr. Sutton passed away on November 8 of that same year.
Mrs. Sutton's health began failing from that time and for the past two years had been in very poor health. Her eyesight failed and she was unable to see to read or write letters. She had been confined to her wheel chair and bed during that time.
She became seriously ill a little more than two weeks prior to her death and passed away on December 17, 1958 at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 6 days at the I.O.O.F. home in York.
She was preceded in death by one son, Lee, her daughter, Vera, and her husband, Tal C. Sutton. Also her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by one son, Ralph Sutton, of Grand Island, Nebr; three grandchildren, Mrs. Max Butts of Clarks, Nebraska, Mrs. Delbert Force of Tacoma, Washington and Ronald Sutton in the United States Air Force Medical Division stationed in Japan. Also by five great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by one brother, Nathan Hall, at Sutherland, Nebraska and a host of other relatives and friends.
