Elizabeth McClain was raised on her father's farm that adjoined the John Watts family farm.

On November 3, 1814, Elizabeth McClain married Johnson Watts. Elizabeth and Johnson had 8 children: Newton Watts (1817-?), Lucinda Watts (Hart)(1819-1841), America Watts (1822-1841), Indiana Watts (1824-?), John Watts (1826-1881), Sarah Ann Watts (1828-1832), Sabra Watts (1831-1904), and Thomas Watts (1849-1927).
