George Garrett was the second son of Anna Maria Valentine and Frederick Gehret (Garrett). His maternal grandparents were Philip and Maria Valentine. His great-grandfather was Henry Valentine, Proven DAR Patriot, and wife, Anna Maria Weik. George was born in Heidelberg, Dauphin County, PA, married Elizabeth Stover on 13 November 1818 in Heidelberg, Lebanon County, PA. They lived many years in Schaefferstown, PA and were the parents of 7 children. The children's names were Levi, Martha, Martin, John, Eliza, Sarah, and Franklin. George and Elizabeth (and several children) moved west to Ohio before 1850, first living in Knox County, Ohio, where he worked as a tailor. They then bought a farm and moved to Richland County, Ohio. George remained in Richland County until his death.
