Christena Marian HANSEN Short was the fourth child of nine (seven lived past infancy) of Ottoline Diderikke Madsen AAGAARD Hansen and Niels (Nels/Neils) Hansen. Sometimes she went by Marian and sometimes by her christened name Christena.
Christena, or "Aunt Steeny" as she was called later in life, appeared to be her father's favorite. After the death of his wife, Ottoline, Niels decided to move with Christena, who was moving to Missouri. There Christena would meet the widowed Jasper A Short and marry 06 December 1920. Jasper's first wife had been dead since February 1920!
There, also, Niels would find love. Niels Hansen and Christena Hansen took in boarders in their Excelsior Springs home. One of the boarders was Augusta Marie BISHOP Cushman Whaley (who had been married 2 times before ), Niels took her as his 2nd wife in about 1921 Shortly after Christena was married to Jasper and Niels to Augusta Whaley, Niels would move to California for the rest of his life.
Jasper Short had four children by his first wife, Alphenia CULP Short (1880-1920) and by Christena HANSEN Short he would have another five children: Helen Laverne SHORT Swafford (1922-2006), John Short (1924-1999), Donald Lee Short (1926-1995), Jean Ann SHORT Trost (1931-2004),Henry Hansen Short (1933-2002).
