Marie M. (Baker) Simpkins, 80, of Livingston died at her home early Saturday morning, February 7, 2004 with her family at her side.

Marie was born on February 28, 1923 in Billings, Montana, the daughter of Stanley H. Baker and Anna I. (LeBrun) Baker. She attended Billings schools, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1940. She then attended St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Billings for two years. On November 21, 1943 she married Francis C. "Frank" Simpkins in Spokane, Washington.

For a number of years the couple lived in the Portland, Oregon area where Mr. Simpkins was employed as a baker. They then lived in Billings briefly before coming to Livingston in 1951. For many years Marie worked at Livingston memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the emergency room and operating room. She retired in the late 1070's. Mr Simpkins died on November 1, 1991.

Marie was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic minister and participated in the "Fifty Plus" club. She also enjoyed the family's annual August camping outing on the Boulder River. She enjoyed the many birds that frequented her bird feeders. Her greatest love was her family.

Her survivors include her son, David Simpkins; five daughters, Judy Chapman, Mary Ellen (Nick) O'Dell, Janice Wood, Susan (Don) Olinger and Michele (Bryant) Kruckenberg; her sister, Ellen Brink; sister-in-law, Sister Mary Simpkin; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Francis C. "Frank" Simpkins, Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley H. Baker and Anna I. (LeBrun) Bake; her son, Walter James Simpkins; granddaughter, Rebecca Marie Olinger; sister, Irene Perry and two sons-in-law, William H. Chapman and Jorge F. Wood.

Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, both at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Livingston with the Rev. Dale Yurkovic officiating. Graveside committal and burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Livingston.

If so desired, memorials may be directed to Northern Rockies Radiation Oncology Center in Billings or Volunteer Neighbors in Livingston.
