Matilda ‘Tillie' J. Naslund
Matilda (Tillie) J. Naslund of Valparaiso, Fla., died peacefully at the Parthenon Health Care Center in Crestview on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010. A resident of Valparaiso since 1982, Tillie spent nearly four years under the care of Emerald Coast Hospice at the Parthenon Center. Tillie would have been 97 in six weeks. She was the oldest living member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville. A very active member of the parish, she helped in many ways until Parkinson's disease caused her to cease involvement.
Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Naslund; her parents, Joseph and Catherine Dress of Dubuque, Iowa; seven sisters; and two brothers. She is succeeded by her two daughters, Connie Cunningham of Hendersonville, N.C., and Carol Groom of Moses Lake, Wash.; and her son, Fr. Sebastian Naslund of Valparaiso.
Viewing will take place at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home, 492 E Pine Ave., in Crestview from 7 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville. Viewing will precede the Mass from 9 to 10 a.m. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall. Interment beside her husband will take place later at Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Holy Name of Jesus Church. Special thanks to the dedicated healthcare workers at Emerald Coast Hospice and the Parthenon Health Care Center.
