Boggus Whisenhunt, of Checotah, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the age of 100. Boggus was born on March 24, 1910 to W.A. and Ethel (Tackett) Whisenhunt. Boggus attended grade school at Lindsey Chapel and graduated High School at Eufaula. He served as a Medic from 1942 – 1945 in the US Army during WWII and later served in the Korean War from 1950 – 1953 as a medic at a military hospital in Tokyo, Japan. Boggus attended Northeastern State University and the University of Kansas Medical Hospital and became a Lab Technician, retiring from WW Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah. Boggus was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth Winkle and Dona Brackett; brothers, Jack and Gene Whisenhunt; three infant brothers and one infant sister. He is survived by his brother, Bane Whisenhunt and his wife Bertha; sisters, Velma Smith and Willie Brinsfield; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as many friends and loved ones. A funeral service for Boggus will be 10:00 am Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the First Assembly of God with Rev. Paul Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Triplett Cemetery with Donavin Winkle, Danny Ray Brinsfield, Ricky Smith, Don Whisenhunt, Dicky Whisenhunt, and Darwin Whisenhunt serving as pallbearers. Honorary pall bearers will be Randall Smith, Larry Smith, Lensey Brinsfield, Buryl Brackett and Junior Brackett.
