Arthur Roy Markley, 81, long-time resident of Estherville, died yesterday at 12:15 p.m. at the Lauritsen Nursing Home.

Mr. Markley had been a resident of the Home since July 1961. Infirmities of advanced age were named as the cause of his death.

The Rev. William R. Noland will officiate at the funeral service of Mr. Markley, to be held Saturday at 2 p.m. the Fuhrman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery. Masonic graveside services will be held.

Pallbearers are to be Harry Heldt, Harry Duis of Cylder, Raymond K. Schenck, George Kibbee, Adan Bieber and Arthur Lauritsen.

Friends may call at Fuhrman Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Thursday until time of services Saturday afternoon.

Arthur R. Markley was born Dec. 27, 1883, at Schaller, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael M. Markley. He received his elementary and high school education in Schaller, graduating in 1899 from the Schaller High School.

He was married Feb. 1, 1910, to Addie Dyke in the home of her parents here.

Mr. Markley opened an implement and car business here in 1914 and operated it for many years. From 1935-1947 he assisted his son in the operation of a filling station on S. 6th St. Mrs. Markley died in 1957.

Mr. Markley had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years.

He is survived by one son, Hugh, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a great-granddaughter, his parents, two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 30, 1964)
