Charles Truman Hiatt was born March 4, 1877 at Indianola, Iowa. His parents were Thomas Allen Hiatt and Adeline Jackson Hiatt. In 1879, when he was two years old, he was part of a group of twenty families who came in covered wagons and settled in Loup County, Nebr.

He graduated from Ord High School in 1895. As a young man he worked on the railroad and later settled on a farm in Greeley County.

In 1903 he married Anna Mattson of Wolbach. To this union six children were born: Gladys Sparks of Madrid, Nebr.; Irene Steinwart and Roy Hiatt of Elsie, Nebr.; Ada of Meridian, Idaho; Allen of Belmont, Calif.; and Anna Pete of Lincoln, Nebr. In December of 1916 his wife Anna passed away.

In December of 1917 he married Frances Leimgruber of Bellevue, Ohio. To this union were born 3 children: Rosella Nelson of Ericson, Charles Hiatt of North Tonawanda, New York and Kenneth Hiatt of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances and daughter Ada.

He is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

The last few years of his life he spent at the Gray Nursing Home in Greeley and passed away from a stroke at the Spalding Hospital, July 29, 1964.
