Mary Jane Blount, 72, died Friday night at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick following an extended illness.
She was a native and had lived most of her life in Ware County. She was the daughter of the late Elam Thomas Cowart and Emmie Jane Wall Cowart.
She had served as optometrist assistant for Dr. Davis Jacobs for thirty years prior to her retirement in 2005. She was a member of Deenwood Baptist Church and the Women's Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-three years, Randy Blount of Waycross; a daughter, Kathy Griffis (husband Donnie) of Waycross; a son, George Alan Blount (wife Merri) of Dublin; four grandchildren, Marianne Burns (husband Ellis) of Callahan, FL, Neal Griffis (wife Carmen) of Waycross, Emily Griffis of St. Simon's Island, and Zach Blount of Dublin; two great grandchildren, Laurianne Burns and Hunter Burns of Callahan, FL; a sister, Barbara Ann Hall of Waycross, a brother, Jim Cowart (wife Pat) of Dahlonega, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Monday (November 1, 2010) at Deenwood Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Monday at Deenwood Baptist Church.
