John Mills Jr served in the Revolutionary War in 1776-1777 in Capt Simeon Stevens' Co in Major Hosington's Corps in the New York Line on the Frontier on the Connecticut River and its vicinity. He served in Capt Burton's Co in Col. Herick's Regiment and at the taking of General Burgoyne's Army after the Battle of Saratoga in Oct 1777. He served as a Corporal in Capt Ezekiel Ladd's Co in Col. Timothy Bedels Regiment in Apr 1778-Apr 1779 in the Continental Line.

John Mills Jr was on the Muster Roll of Capt. John G. Bayley's Co, which was in service guarding and scouting from April 1777, to March 6, 1779 in the Regiment under command of Col. Peter Olcott. From May 1779 to May 1781, he was in Capt. Simeon Stevens' Co in service "guarding and scouting in the sundry alarms, guarding prisoners, etc." under the command of Col. Peter Olcott.

In 1791, John purchased his father's Grist Mill and one-half of his Saw Mill in Newbury. In 1792 his father deeded the other half of the Saw Mill to him.

From the "History of Newbury, VT..." page 639, John Mills was admitted to the Church Dec 3, 1791 and Elizabeth (McDuffee) Mills, his wife was admitted May 5, 1793. The following Baptism of Children was reported as:

Nathan, May 5, 1793 (no birth date) - d. 8 Sep 1857 in Newbury - His death certificate states that he is age 62, single, and in the Poorhouse.

Susanne, Sept 25, 1796, b. 14 Aug 1794 - d. 1 Jan 1841 in Indiana m. Isaac Rogers

Betsey, April 29, 1798, b. abt 1795

Mindwell, Sept 8, 1799, b. abt 1796

In "Early Mills Families" by Betty Post, the following are additional possible children of John and Elizabeth:
Molly b. 1777 m. James Caruth, Daniel b. 30 May 1779 m. Irene Chandler, Ruth b. 12 Aug 1780 m. Samuel Kendall, Sarah "Sally" b. 6 Feb 1782 m. 1) Samuel Hall 2) Benjamin Banfill, Anna b. 31 Dec 1783, and Mary b. 16 Mar 1787.
