Thomas Jefferson Haynes married Florence "Flora" Esther Gardner 8 Jan 1889 at Rochester, Cedar county, Iowa. To them were born Ione Belle b 18 Feb 1893, Grace Leola b 10 Mar 1895, Samuel Perry b 15 Feb 1897, Esther Verna b 2 Dec 1899, Ruth b 7 May 1902 d 6 July 1902, and George T. Haynes b 18 Oct 1904.
After the death of Flora, Thomas was unable or unwilling to care for his children and made his half brother, George W. McLarand the executor of Flora's estate. George was able to find homes for all of the children except for George T. Haynes, who was sent to the Iowa Children's Home Society in Des Moines, Polk county, Iowa sometime prior to the final report filed in 1907. It is not known at this time what happened to little George. There is no mention of him in Esther nor Samuel's obituaries.
