Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Charles was born Sept. 4, 1948, in Clinton, to Charles and Wilma (Williams) Bateson. He married Debra Harlacher on March 27, 1982, in Streator.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Emily (Joe) Pruitt of Clinton; a son, Sgt. Charles J. Bateson of Fort Hood, Texas; three grandchildren, Joseph, Savannah and Kaitlin; and five sisters, Mary Burdett of Metamora, Marla (Richard) Leuelling of Washington, Ill., Venita (Jerry) Barnett and Luetta Garnett, both of Little Rock, Ark., and Jancis Bateson of Joshua Tree, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest son, Joseph; and a brother, Jim Bateson.
Charlie worked very hard his whole life. He considered being a sheriff's deputy in La Salle County, an LPN at Crestview Nursing Home and the Head Start bus driver the most important jobs he had because he loved helping other people. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Charlie was a member of First Christian Church in Clinton.
Memorials may be made to the Charles R. Bateson Memorial Fund.
