One of the 8 children of Jacob Walrath, 1776, and Margaret Braut. (Perhaps a variation of Bradt-?)

James, born in 1797 (sic), had three children, Daniel Charles, Elizabeth Ann and Hiram. (this Daniel and this Hiram lived on the De Witt-Maquoketa highway in the early days).

The 3 children of James Wa1rod, 1797 (sic),

1. Daniel Charles, born in 1817 (sic), died Dec. 3, 1911, mar­ried Amy Smith. Their children James Higgs, Char1es M., Ann, Lecta and Margaret Jane.

2. Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann, married Charles (G.) Brown, by the 1860 census they had Susan, 5 and Angeline, 4.

3. Hiram b. about 1831, married Catherine Cordelia Durand, one daughter, Elizabeth, who married Ed Sherman in 1861, and after him Albert Pike. They lived in Sioux City, Iowa; her father died in their home.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP

Bloomfield was originally a part of the territory embraced in Berlin, Welton and Brookfield townships, but in 1855 congressional townships 82 range and 83 north, range 3 east, were set off by the county authorities and by Russell Perham named Bloomfield. He was one of the first justices of the peace who served in the township. At the date of its organization in 1855, in addition to Mr Perham , Sylvanus S Norton, and Alva McLaughlin there were among the early settlers Joseph Benjamin, Nicholas Koon, Joseph Willey, Anson Norton, N. and Eli Hatfield, Ben Ogden, Sr, O.J. Hinkley, Calvin Davis, Parvin Davis, Royal Goodenow, John and Solomen Smith, Abraham Names, James and Abe Walrod, John Q. Jenkins, Robert Williams, Henry C. Cowgill, Henry and William Gillett, Lewis De Laun, Levi Decker, David Rhodes, Peter Sleeper, John Brahmer, Peter Hoyt, Charles and John Riggs, Ransome Haines, Seneca Williams, Dean Davis, Jacob Bollinger, John Burgess, Thomas Snowden and Truman Clark.

Will of James Walrod Clinton County "Record of Wills" pages 220 and 221

Deceased

In the name of God Amen. I James Walrod considering the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death and being of sound mind and memory do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament.

First
First is to say I give and devise to my beloved wife Susan Walrod go to her heirs and assign the following described lands in Clinton County, Iowa, to wit: The south west quarter of the south east quarter of Section Twenty eight; a part of the south east quarter of the south west quarter of Section Twenty eight the same being nine acres off of the south part of that part of said forty acre tract that lies east of the Dewitt, Maquoketa Road; also the north west quarter of the north east quarter of Section thirty three (33) and all of the part of the north east quarter of the north west quarter of section thirty three that lies east of said Road containing eighteen acres all in Township Eighty three (83) south of range three (3) East of the 5 S.P.M. Also the north west quarter of the south east quarter of section one (1) in Township Eighty two (82) north of Range two (21) East of the 5th Principal Median. To have and to hold the above described premises together with all the household containments and appurtenances ______ belonging or in any way appertaining to the said Susan Walrod, her heirs and assigned favor.

Second
I give and bequest to the said Susan Walrod all of my personal estate goods, chattel of what notion or kind occurs for her sole and separate use to and behoove forever.

Lastly
I hereby constitute and appoint my son Hiram M. Walrod sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal this 27th day of February A.D. 1866.
