Eliza Ann Moss Carter was born in South Carolina in 1839 to James Moss (1803-1843) and Sarah Moss (1815) She married my great grandfather John Harmon Carter in Rusk, Texas in 1854. They had 6 children including my beloved grandmother Laura Ellen Carter Roberts. Eliza died just one month after her last baby was born in 1874. A very nice lady named Marinda Holmes (1845-1890) became John's wife a few years later and my grandmother said she was a wonderful step-mother. There were no more children, however their 10 year old daughter burned to death in 1876.
