Owen Augustus Head was born September 12, 1860 to John L. Head and Mary Nolen Head, where they lived in Bellefontaine, Choctaw County, Mississippi. His father was a farmer who was born in North Carolina; his mother was born in Alabama and she was a homemaker. Owen had five sisters and three brothers. They were Zadie, Isaac, Margaret, Thelbert Otha, Mary Bell, Queen, John Ebb and Dora Mae. He and his siblings attended school and they worked on the farm after school and in the summer.
In 1881, Owen was married to Margaret McEachern.They raised a family of four girls, Cassie, Bertha, Pearl and Ruth and three sons, Lee, Herbert and Ralph.In 1900 all the children were grown-up or in school and living at home. After Owen retired of farming the family moved to Purcell, Ok about 1910. During the next 10 years, the older kids left home, leaving the youngest sons at home and Bertha who was a public school teacher. Lee was a clerk in a grocery store and Ralph was a clerk in a Bank. Before 1930, Owen had come out of retirement to go into the dairy business in McClain County, OK. He owned his home and farm and the wealth of his assets was valued at $2500. Mr. Head was a patient at Wesley Hospital, Oklahoma City, where he died on May 8, 1931 at the age of 71, a few months before his birthday. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, at Purcell, McLain, Oklahoma. His brother, Otha and his mother, Mary Frances Nolen Head preceded him in death.They were buried in Hillside Cemetery.
