Jacob Maurer purchased a mill property east of New Berlin on the south side of Penns Creek in 1796. In 1805 he constructed a new mill on the site. The mill remained in the Maurer family for many decades. Jacob and his brothers Frederick and Andrew all came to the New Berlin area at about the same time.
