C, 135th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 24, 1863. He also enlisted in Lancaster June 18, 1863, still overstating his age, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg June 24 as a sergeant with Co. I, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry (181st Pa), and honorably discharged with his company January 6, 1864. He last enlisted and mustered in Lancaster May 23, 1864, as a private with Co. F, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company July 18, 1865.
He married Emily I. Dillow in 1869 and fathered Henry (b. @1870), Blanche (b. 03/??/80), Cora E. (b. 01/??/84), Joseph D. (b. 10/??/86), and Catharine M. (b. 05/??/90).
