The son of Jacob H. & Catharine (Bartholomew) Hebble, in 1860 he was an agent living in Conestoga Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 5" tall and had dark hair and dark eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Lancaster August 9, 1862, overstating his age by four years, mustered into federal service there August 11 as a private with Co. C, 135th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 24, 1863. He also enlisted in Lancaster June 18, 1863, still overstating his age, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg June 24 as a sergeant with Co. I, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry (181st Pa), and honorably discharged with his company January 6, 1864. He last enlisted and mustered in Lancaster May 23, 1864, as a private with Co. F, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company July 18, 1865.
He married Emily I. Dillow in 1869 and fathered Henry (b. @1870), Blanche (b. 03/??/80), Cora E. (b. 01/??/84), Joseph D. (b. 10/??/86), and Catharine M. (b. 05/??/90).
