A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in West Chester, Chester County, June 8, 1861, mustered into federal service at Baltimore, Maryland, July 26 as a private with Co. D, 1st Pennsylvania Reserves (30th Pennsylvania Infantry), and honorably discharged at term's end July 13, 1864. Strangely, he is on the roster as John B. Hebble. A note in the muster rolls says, "Cancel name Abraham B. Hebble,"
and he has pension indices under both names. He also served as 1st lieutenant of Hebble's Independent Cavalry Militia, captained by his brother Christian,July 19 - October 29, 1864.
He married Anna S. B. Hoffman and fathered Amos A. (b. 07/??/69), Frank A. (b. @1863), Jacob O. (b. 09/23/74), Abraham L. (b. 12/18/76), and Christian, (b.01/??/84).
