Swen Nelson one of the early settlers of this county died at the residence of his son, Frank T. Nelson, in this city on Tuesday, December 18, 1900. The cause of death was Brights Disease assisted by other complications. Mr. Nelson's health began to fail several months ago and though every effort was made to stay the disease, it was without success and he gradually failed until the thread of life was severed.
Swen Nelson was born at Rogberga,Soken,Jonkopings Lan, Sweden, on August 10, 1827. He came to this county to LaFayette, Illinois in the autumn of 1854. He remained until April 1856 when he removed to Goodhue County, Minnesota where he settled upon a farm and remained twenty years. In the fall of 1876 he removed to Meeker County upon a farm near Ness Church where he resided a number of years when he removed to Cosmos. He farmed until 1890, when having turned his land over to his younger sons, he gave up active work and came to Litchfield, making his residence with his oldest son, Frank.
Mr. Nelson was a careful farmer, a good citizen and an honorable upright man. He is survived by eight children; five sons and three daughters, all in comfortable circumstances: Frank T., sheriff elect of this city; Axle V.; O.E.; John L.; Albert A. and Esther, of Cosmos, and Mrs. H.E.Dahll, and Mrs. E.P.Jackman, also of Cosmos.
The funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the residence of his son. Rev. Schurer Werner, of Immanual Episcopal Church will officiate. The remains will be laid to rest in Litchfield Cemetery besides those of his wife, who died Jan. 14, 1887. Many besides the relatives will mourn his demise.
