Boon was born to Robert BISHOP and Sallie LINK. Boon's father was a white man; his mother was a former slave, described in records as "mulatto."

Boon's siblings were Jefferson, Charles W., Elizabeth "Lizzie" (who married the Rev. John Henry GRANT).

Boon married Elizabeth "Bettie" DAVIS on November 23, 1899, in Paris, Bourbon Co., Kentucky. She died in 1931.

He spent his working years doing farm labor, on land owned by someone else.

Boon's maternal grandparents were Enoch LINK, a slave owner in Bourbon County and Scott County, Kentucky, and an unknown slave woman.

Boon's great-grandparents were John Jacob LINK and Elizabeth CREAGER.

NOTE: The name of Boon's father is listed as "Been Bishop" on Boon's death certificate. However, according to the death certificate of his brother Jefferson and the newspaper obituary of his brother Charles, their father was "Robert Bishop." At this time, a variety of factors indicate that the first name of their father was "Robert."
