Tena Nelson, 101, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, January 15, 2001, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1899, near Foxhome, the daughter of Ole and Gina (Queseth) Aaberg. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rothsay. She grew up and attended school in the Rothsay area. In 1921, she graduated from Nurses Training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fergus Falls. On Feb. 20, 1923, she married Thomas E. Nelson at Bethlehem Lutheran Parsonage in Fergus Falls. The couple farmed in the Rothsay area for 13 years, then moved to the Fergus Falls area in 1934. She later returned to her nursing career at Lake Region Hospital, where she worked for more than 20 years, retiring in 1973. Mrs. Nelson moved to Riverview Heights in 1973, and in 1994, she became a resident of the Pioneer Retirement Community. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, where she was active in Ladies Aid and circles. She did volunteer work for the YMCA, Pioneer Retirement Community, and Broen Memorial Home for several years. She was a life-time member of St. Lukes Hospital Nursing Alumni.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Thomas who died in 1968; her parents, Ole and Gina Aaberg; one brother, Charles Aaberg; seven sisters, Clara Wigdahl, Olive Wigdahl, Cora Aaberg, Olga Skolrud, Bertha Jorgenson, Ella King and Effie Olson; and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her children, LaDelle Walsh, of Laguna Beach, Calif.; Kenneth (Phyllis) Nelson of Minneapolis; Florence (Bud) Mobraten of Fergus Falls; and Donald (Charlotte) Nelson of Park Rapids; two sisters, Tonetta (Elmer) Johnson of Fergus Falls and Nora Halbakken of Seattle, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the chuuch

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
