Nova "Pearl" Alexander, 83, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Pearl was born in Colony, Kansas on March 24, 1927, the daughter of Lester and Dona (Mattox) Terrell.

She lived in Sedan, KS, Wichita, KS, and Peru, KS before moving to Chanute in 1952. She attended two years at Southwest Bible College in Waxahachie, TX.

She was united in marriage in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on May 6, 1950 to Hubert Alexander, he preceded her in death.

Pearl owned and operated Tiny Tots Daycare in Chanute for 30 years. She also enjoyed her 30 years spent as a Director of the nursery at the Living Word Assembly. She also made several trips to Mexico and Kentucky doing works as a missionary, conducted vacation Bible Schools as well as collected clothes and food to take.

She had a love for sewing and made most of her children's clothes when they were young.

She is survived by one son, Ron Alexander and wife Judi of Coffeyville, KS; three daughters, Karen Coleman and husband James of Iola, KS, Sharon Taylor and husband Terry of Claremore, OK, and Carolyn (Morrow) DeMeritt and husband John of Chanute, KS; 19 grandchildren, DeRhonda Newby and her husband David of Oswego, KS, R.D. Alexander of Coffeyville, KS, Richard Beach of Prince George, Canada, Stephen and Adam Hillbrant of Iola, KS, Ethan Coleman of Iola, KS, Elizabeth Willhoite and husband Michael of Chelsea, OK, Kassandra Adams of Chelsea, OK, Andy Adams and wife Jessica of Yukon, OK, Julie Arell and husband Joe of Chanute, KS, Lisa Joyce and husband Tommy of Chanute, KS, T.J. Morrow and Cassandra Sanchez of Garnett, KS, Brian DeMeritt of Montour Falls, NY, Kelly DeMeritt and wife Trina of Erie, KS, Brad DeMeritt and his wife Teresa of Erie, KS, John W. DeMeritt of Chanute, KS, Jimmy DeMeritt of Chanute, Kansas, Eric DeMeritt and wife Jenny of Erie, KS and Erin Stottman of Parsons, KS; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister, May Lawson; and two brothers Carl Terrell and Charles Terrell.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert; her parents; two sisters, Della Ruth Dodd and Betty Jo Holmburg; and one brother Van Earl Terrell.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute, KS. Burial will follow at Elcado Cemetery, in Peru, Kansas.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Living Word Assembly, or to Kings Chapel in Kentucky and may be left with the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
