Daughter of Edward Marvin Davis & Celia Raydo Montague. Wife of Thomas John Gessford (ma. 1942).

Phyllis Davis Gessford, 79, of Hampton, VA and formerly of Wanchese, NC, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005 in a Hampton, VA hospital. Mrs. Gessford was born in Wanchese, NC and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and loved arts and crafts. She was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Ray Montague Davis and the wife of Thomas J. Gessford of the home. Besides her husband, surviving are her daughter: Lani G. Goodwin of Nags Head; her son: Harold Gessford of Colington; two sisters: Elsie Beck of Hampton, Va. and Dixie D. Hunt of Wanchese; her brother: Tommy Davis of Port Isabelle, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mrs. Gessford was pre-deceased by her daughter: Paula Gessford and son: Timmy Gessford. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Etheridge and Rev. Holt Clarke with burial in the Cudworth Cemetery. Friends may join the family at Twiford Funeral Home Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Twiford Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the family.
