Fanna (Fanny, Fenna) Jansen was born in Ratzel, near Uelsen, in the Bentheim region of Germany. She was the daughter of Berend Jansen and Lyda Koyer, who had ten children. She emigrated to the US in 1886,and her surname became Johnson. She married Dick Snyder in 1892. She was the mother of Johnny Snyder and John B. Snyder, both of whom predeceased her. She died of acute myocarditis, with "melancholia agitata" as a contributing factor.
