Mrs. Barrickman had gone to a Forth July picnic and the murder was not discovered until she returned home and found Mr. Barrickman dead on the sleeping porch in the rear of their home. He had been shot four times, once in the head and three times through the heart.
The only available clue is that furnished by a neighbor woman who thought she heard shots and saw a man dressed in a soldier's uniform came out from some weeds back of the Barrickman home. The murder is a mysterious one and the police are working on clues that might lead to the guilty parties and the reason for their act. As soon as the body is released by the coroner it will be sent here for interment.
Mr. Barrickman spent most of his younger days in this community and is well known here, being a brother of Mrs. Sophia Bragg. of this city and C. P. Barrickman of near Genoa. He and Mrs. Barrickman, whose maiden name was Miss Rena Crawford, resided here for a number of years, but had been residents of Jeffersonville for more than ten years. He was 59 years of age.
