Otis H. Dowden, 91, of Monrovia, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010.
He was born July 29, 1919 in Odon to the late John C. and Pearl (Hassler) Dowden. Otis married the late Reva Nell (Ockerman) Dowden on March 2, 1940.
He lived in Monrovia for most of his life. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Monrovia United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of the Monrovia Masonic Lodge #654; and the Monrovia American Legion. He purchased the Monrovia General Store in 1959 and later operated as Dowden's Market. He retired in 1976. Previously, he was a Supervisor at the Detroit Diesel Allison for 15 years.
Otis is survived by one son, John E. (Diane) Dowden; three grandchildren, Cindy Dowden, Joni Newlin, and John E. Dowden II; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Dowden, Jeffery Newlin, Avery Newlin, Emery Newlin, Amelia, Lydia, Stella, and Celia Dowden; one brother Paul Dowden; one sister Lula Stuffle. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Reva Dowden and parents John C. and Pearl Dowden.
Calling hours for Otis will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 and also one hour prior to the service at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, at the funeral home. Jack Elliott will officiate the service. Otis will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hall, IN.
