Theodore Newton Gilfillan, aged 73 years, one of the best known and highly esteemed men of this city, died very suddenly Sunday evening, June 15 at 8:30 at his home, 7 Moody avenue.
Mr. Gilfillan's death was most unexpected and comes as a distinct shock to his many friends in this community. He had been in his usual health until last evening when he complained of feeling tired. While leaving to go up stairs to lie down he fell and expired almost instantly. It is presumed that his death was the result of a stroke.
He was born in Lawrence county and his life had been spent in this city and vicinity. He was a member of the Highland United Presbyterian church. For some time he had been associated with the Gilfillan Plumbing Co. of this city, serving as vice-president.
The following children survive: Dr. Marjorie Gilfillan of Battle Creek, Michigan, Mrs. James Studebaker of Breckenridge, Pa., Mrs. J.K. Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., James H., Attorney J.Clyde Gilfillan and A.H. Gilfillan of this city and Rev. T.C. Gilfillan, pastor of the Plain Grove United Presbyterian church. One brother also survives, Homer Gilfillan of Colorado Springs, Col.
A sad feature of Mr. Gilfillan's death is that his daughter, Miss Elna Blanche died Thursday evening, the funeral services taking place this afternoon. Funeral services for Mr. Gilfillan will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the East Brook United Presbyterian church in charge of his pastor, Rev. C.J. Williamson assisted by Rev. Clark, a former pastor. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
