Jacobus Blauvelt, s. of Jacobus "James" Blauvelt and Hannah Zabriskie, b. Oct. 21, 1833. He was bapt. Dec. 23, 1833 with the given name of Jacobus at the Paramus, NJ Ref. Dutch Chh. and d. June 10, 1885 in the Village of Piermont, NY. Jacobus is the Latin form of the English name James and while his father was known as James Blauvelt, Jacobus was known as Jacob Blauvelt.

On Oct. 2, 1852 at Greenbush Presby. Chh. in the Village of Blauvelt, NY, Jacob m. his distant cousin Ann Eliza Bell, dau. of Henry D. Bell and Frances "Fanny" Onderdonk, b. Oct. 9, 1836 in the Village of Blauvelt. She was bapt. Nov. 20, 1836 at the Tappan, NY Ref. Dutch Chh. and d. June 8, 1911 in Philadelphia, Penn.

Jacob is listed as a carpenter in the 1860 Orangetown, NY federal census. Before he died, he had patented an extension ladder and established a factory in Piermont, NY for its manufacture.

Jacob and Ann Eliza had six children b. in the Village of Blauvelt who will be outlined later. The current focus is their fourth child and fourth son:

• iv. William Stanley Blauvelt, b. Feb. 7, 1860, d. June 14, 1923 in Sylvatus, VA; m. May 23, 1886 in the Village of Suffern, NY, Emma Craft, dau. of Henry Craft, Sr. and Dorothea Rehling, b. Mar. 27, 1863 in Suffern, NY. She d. June 5, 1936 in Sylvatus, VA. Both are interred at Mount Peace Cemetery in Philadelphia, Penn. Four children of the family but only two survived beyond infancy.
