(special thanks to Amanda Gilbert #47590570 for link to parents and the following info) I have written this information for other descendants. Anyone who descends from Daniel Scurlock can join the DAR through WILLIAM SCURLOCK, and may also join the United Daughters of the Confederacy through Daniel, as he was an officer during the War Between the States. It was said that he was a wonderful man.

Most of the information that we have on Daniel is from the letters written to his brother Theodocius J. "Dosh" Scurlock, M. D. Daniel was three months old when his father died. He was always known as "Buddy" to his family. Daniel attended Irving College, Spring Hill, Tennessee and by August 1857 Dan had left school and was reading law in Tuskegee, Alabama. In December 1859, Dan made a trip to Titus County, Texas and made arrangements to move there. On 14 Feb 1860 in Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, he married Adelia Virginia Beatrice Hendrick .

Dan served as a Captain during the War Between the States. Following the War, Dan returned to Mt. Pleasant and tried to make a living at farming. He eventually went into a mercantile business with his father-in-law, Dr. John Hendrick. In 1878 Dan was elected Tax Assessor for Titus County and served in this office for many years, as well as being Cashier of Mt. Pleasant Bank. He died in 1896 from renal failure.
