Lucena N. Turk was born in Jones County, Georgia and was the daughter of Theodocius Turk II and Mary Ann Johnston, whose father was Revolutionary War Patriot William Johnston (DAR Ancestor #: A064106).
Following the death of her (Lucena's) father in 1824, Mary Ann married Green N. Buchanan on 12 Jun 1832 in Baldwin County, Georgia.
Lucena married Daniel Norman Scurlock on 12 Jan 1825 in Baldwin County, Georgia.
Daniel was born in 1899 and died in 1836. They had seven children.
In the late 1850's Lucena, Eliza, Theodocius, Daniel, William, and Mary Ann Turk Scurlock and her husband, Augustus Darby and grandchildren came to Texas and settled in Polk County.
Lucena bought about 1000 acres in what is now Moscow, Texas, which was then a more thriving community at that time.
Eliza had recently married Joseph Frank Bonner and had two children. Her daughter, Mary Ann died in 1862.
Lucena, following the abandonment of her daughter, Eliza's husband, Frank, went into a rage, tearing up all pictures and items belonging to him. A court case ensued with Gus Darby suing his wife, Sophronia Mangrum Darby, and Frank Bonner who had eloped with his wife, causing undue stress on the family, particularly with her daughter, Eliza, being pregnant and having a baby in January 1867, after Frank's departure.
Lucena apparently died of a stroke.
