married 16 Oct 1811 Laurens, South Carolina

Abraham Howell from whom our Prentiss County Mississippi Howells are descended, married 16 Oct 1811 Laurens, SC Sarah Ann Andrews (from a neighbor family).

Soon after marriage they left for Tennessee. It is said they walked and carried their earthly belongings wrapped in a blanket. They stopped in Linden, Tennessee with other members of the Andrews family. In spring of 1812 Abraham Howell, not being satisfied in Tennessee, came alone to Monroe County, Mississippi. He settled on the site which is now old Athens, staked his claim to several hundred acres of land. His only neighbors were Chickasaw Indians. He cleared fields, made a crop, and built a house of logs, then went back to Tennessee for his young wife. The original tract and hundred of adjourning acres are still in the hands of Howell descendants.

They had 18 children.
