I do not know a lot about the young life of Brenda Hunt Bryant Wisenbaker. She married my nephew in 1981.
She had a son from a previous marriage to Donald Austin Bryant. He was a brother to Larry Bryant who was married to her sister Linda. From this marriage to Donald Bryant she had a son.
According to her obituary she was the daughter of Bessie King. Other sources in Find A Grave list her as the daughter of Early Mack Hunt, Jr.
Brenda was a waitress and of the Baptist faith. She attended Lowndes High School in Lowndes County, Georgia.
She married Gordon Wisenbaker in Jan. 1981, In the fall of that year Brenda was admitted to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga. for a surgery for a lump in her breast. During a routine x-ray, they found a spot on her lung. They did the breast surgery and said that it was not cancer. The surgeon wanted to do an immediate surgery on her lung and she declined to get a second opinion. She went to Jacksonville Fl and got the second opinion which agreed with the first diagnosis. She put off the decision until after the first of the year. During this wait Brenda started having severe headaches. She went to the local ER three different times. She was told that it was allergies. Next she was told it was migraines and lastly she was told it was anxiety due to the upcoming surgery she was having.
On the trip to Jacksonville to have the surgery, she vomited the entire time. Her headaches now included double vision. She had told the dr that this was going on when she went for pre op appointment. He attributed it to anxiety also.
Early the next day, she was taken to surgery. After about two hours, they came out and got us and said that they were not going to do surgery. They had given her pre-op meds and then decided to do a cat scan. They found a tumor in the lower back portion of her brain. Almost a week later, they did brain surgery. She came through the surgery fine but tumor was embedded deeply in her brain and they could not get it all out without causing brain damage. That night she was aware and ate some ice chips. The next morning she was talking. Later in the day they came out and said her brain was swelling and she was having seizures. Brenda died that night at age 32. Her husband was a widower at age 27 after only being married fourteen months. A little boy was left without his Mother.
I will always remember the last thing that she said to me before going to surgery. She had long dark beautiful hair. She ran her fingers through it as they were rolling her out of the room and said, "When I wake up, this will all be gone." We found a wig that looked like her hair and she was beautiful in her casket.
Brenda was survived by her husband Gordon Wisenbaker , son Donald Austin Bryant, Jr. mother Bessie King , sister Linda Bryant, and three brothers Larry Hunt, Lamar Hunt, and Terry Hunt.
She was buried at Redland church of Christ cemetery in Lowndes County, Georgia where Gordon's 13 year old brother was buried. As of this time in 2013, her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law have been buried there also.
