Funeral services for Mrs. George Steckel, a resident of the Pearl Lake community for the past 68 years, who died at her home in Pearl Lake Saturday, were held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at the Holy Cross church. Rev. Ferdinand Schreifels, OSB, a grandson, officiated at the requiem mass and services at the grave, assisted by Rev. Ignatius Wippich, pastor of the Holy Cross church. The pallbearers were Alphonse Harren, Wilfred Lemm, Wendelin Harren, Christ Karls and Alois Harren. Adella Steckel, a granddaughter, carried the cross.
Mrs. Steckel was Catherine Finnemann, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Finnemann and was born on February 2, 1864 in Michigan. She came to Pearl Lake with her parents when eight years of age. On November 8,1880 she married Nicholas Krier at St. Nicholas and they made their home on a farm one mile southwest of Pearl Lake. They had nine children of whom eight survive. Mr. Krier died on July 5, 1898.
On September 22, 1903 she married her surviving husband, George Steckel. Two sons were born to this union.
The surviving children are four sons, John and Carl Krier, St. Cloud; Math Steckel, Waite Park; Alois Steckel, St. Cloud; and six daughters, Mrs. Anna Harren, Luxemburg; Theresia Krier, Pearl Lake; Mrs. Theodore Schreifels,
Cold Spring; Mrs. Henry Harren, Albany; Mrs. Henry Lemm, Minneapolis; and Mrs. Math Krippner, Pearl Lake.
There are 54 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Joseph Finnemann of St. Cloud.
