Head stone photo by Fred and Neoma Sherman. It is my understanding that his proper name was Charley, not Charles as previously believed.

SSDI: Name: Charley Mattingly; Last Residence: 65647 Exeter, Barry, Missouri, USA; BORN: 13 May 1911; Died: 15 Jan 1990; State (Year) SSN issued: Missouri (1955).
----------
EXETER, Mo. — Charley Mattingly, 78, Exeter route 1, died about 3:30 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield, after an illness.

Mr. Mattingly was born May 13, 1911, in Barton County [not sure if this is Barton County, Missouri or Kansas]. He had lived in the Exeter area most of his life. He had attended school at Hazel Dale School, near Monett. He was a retired farmer. He married Velma Ellis on April 9, 1936. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Retha Jean Brattin, Wheaton, and Sharon Kay Harper, Anderson; a brother, Roy E. Mattingly, Exeter; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Harrison will officiate. Arrangements are under direction of Axley’s Culver Chapel, Cassville.

NOTE: It was actually Hazel Dell School he attended (with my father) between Exeter & Wheaton in Barry County.
