Nellie Sinaloa Fogo, daughter of Albert Lee Calahan and Elizabeth Williams Calahan, born September 29, 1890 began her life on a farm northwest of Burr Oak, Jewell, KS.
She was united in marriage January 10, 1909, in Jewell Co, KS to William Lambie Fogo. Seven daughters and five sons were born to this union. Her husband William and three children, Alpheus, Ruth and Frances, preceded her in death.
Nellie was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, MO, where she resided after retiring from her farm home near Burr Oak in 1953. Later she moved to El Dorado, KS where she regularly attended the First Christian Church. Her Sunday School Class and Church friends were a constant inspiration to her during her final years.
Nellie passed away Friday, February 8, 1980 at Wakarusa Manor in Lawrence, KS, where she had resided the past three years. She was 89.
Survivors include: Mr. and Mrs. Milton Fogo, Phelan, CA; Mrs. Mildred Baker, Beaumont, CA; Mr. Aleck Arneson, Inavale, NE; Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Anderson, Kansas City, MO; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stanley, Lawrence, KS; Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Townsend, Rancho Cordova, CA; Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kendrick, Stratford, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Fogo, Phelan, CA; Mr. and Mrs. William Fogo, Altoona, IA; and Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Fogo, El Dorado, KS.
She also leaves 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Nellie will be especially remembered by her cheerful and anticipated visits with her family, as she traveled from coast to coast during her retirement years. Regular church attendance, writing letters to her many friends and family and receiving mail in return were highlights of her life. She collected many treasured bits of literature, poems, songs and she had quite a stamp collection. One, author unknown, poem or song that she carried with her many years and could recite without hesitation, pretty much spells out her beliefs and feelings. She wanted to share this with you today.
"It matters not if raindrops fall or sordid is the sky,
As long as I have faith in God, somehow I will get by.
It matters not if so-called friends leave me adrift at sea,
With the Almighty by my side, somewhere I'll find the key. It matters not if illness comes it's all part of His Plan,
If I am to be worthy of Heaven's Holy Clan.
It matters not however hard the road I have to trod, Because my life is governed by the living hands of God. For all of this is but a dream life has a complex plot. God is my fellow traveler and so it matters not."

Nellie did accept all of her tribulations of the past few years and always met everyone with a smile. She left this world so very peacefully last Friday and the poem she also asked to be read expresses her wishes to each of us.
"After Glow"
by

"I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I'd like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave,
When life is done."
