MRS. LOUISA BENTLEY GRIGGS, for more than half a century a resident of Chicago, died Yesterday of pneumonia, aged 87 years. Her illness was of short duration, beginning only on
Thursday. She died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Huling, 3930 Grand boulevard.
Mrs. Griggs was born in 1813 in Lebanon Springs, N. Y., and was one of nine children of William
N. Bentley and Rhoda Goodrich. Her eldest sister. Nancy, married Charles Walker, one of Chicago's pioneer settlers, and this induced her to move to Chicago in 1845, the entire family following shortly after. These included the late Cyrus and William Bentley and her sisters, Mrs. James K. Burtis and Mrs. Ira N. Herrick. Mrs. Grigg leaves three daughters, Mrs. Arthur B. Meeker, Mrs. John H. Wrenn, and Mrs. Edward C. Huling, with whom she made her home since the death of her husband over a quarter of a century ago.
Ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren survive her. Mrs. Griggs was prominently identified with the First Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church for fifty-five years, taking an active part in all church work and charities so long as her health would permit, and contributing to all its charities.
