She was born March 23, 1885, in Cedar County, to Richard and Julia Moylan Tucker. She was graduated from Springdale School and attended Normal School at Mount Vernon. She taught in Cedar and Johnson Counties until her marriage to James Leo Gatens June 15m 1916, in Cedar Valley. The couple farmed in Cedar Valley until moving to Iowa City in 1934.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Eileen) Donnelly and Mrs. Joe (Marguerite) Knoedel, both of Iowa City; two sons, Erwin of Indianapolis, Ind., and Melvin of Green Bay, Wis.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
