Clifton Lee Thurman was born in Cotton County, Oklahoma, to Benjamin Lee Thurman and Daisy Dale Norsworthy Thurman, and moved to Chillicothe, TX, in his teens. He was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and served in WWII Pacific Theater. He married Ruth Juanita Burkett on 20 Feb 1942 in Hollis, OK, and moved to Lubbock in 1950. They had two children - Sarah Dale, and Jerry Lee.
