Ruth Juanita Burkett was born in Boswell, Choctaw County, OK, to Ernest and Sarah Jane (Clark) Burkett. At some point her family moved to the area around Chillicothe, TX. She married Clifton Thurman on 20 Feb 1942 in Hollis, Oklahoma. They moved to Lubbock about 1950 where she worked in grocery stores and drug stores. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lubbock. She and Clifton had two children, Sarah Dale and Jerry Lee.
