Ms. Lunie Mae Clifton, age 83, died Saturday at The Heritage Inn Nursing Home under the care of United Hospice. The Bulloch County native was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree as a Home Economist. She then worked in Dallas, Texas, as a private secretary before moving to Jacksonville, Fla., and earning her teacher's certificate. She taught school in Jacksonville, Fla., for over 25 years. Ms. Clifton moved to Savannah in 2000 and then to Statesboro in 2001. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Elise Clifton of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews, Cheryl Rushing, Terry Pye, Montel Lanier, Bettins Hardee, Delores Gilstrap, Ralph Clifton, Lurie Toth, Dan Clifton and Carlton Clifton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Emit Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Huffingham officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
