Nathan Beals was born near Charleston, Ill., on November the tenth 1843 and died at his home in Stewardson on Sept. 15, 1919 aged seventy five years, ten months, and ten days. He spent almost his entire life in the vicinity of Stewardson. He became a member of the Christian church early in life and was one of the leading men in building the church in this place. On September 9, 1863, he was married to Margaret Ramsey, to this union five children were born, John A. Beals and Mrs. E. Melvina Replogle both of Almeria, Nebraska, Mrs. S. Nevada Murphy of Cleveland, Ohio and Richard and James D. Beals of Stewardson. On January 15, 1880 his wife died and on March 29, 1881 he was married to Mrs. Margaret Jane (Replogle) Nees who died on November 30, 1908 and on February 1, 1911 he was married to Miss Ellen Huffer. In addition to his heart broken wife and a host of friends and other relatives he leaves one sister, Mrs. Ellen Daniels and three brothers Archibald M. Beals, Richard Beals and Stephen A. D. Beals all of Stewardson. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday by the Free Masons, of which Mr. Beals was a life long member, funeral sermon by Rev. Robertson of Shelbyville, with burial in the Stewardson cemetery. Stewardson Clipper, 17 Sep 1919
